Surrey History Centre
Are you lucky enough to have Surrey ancestors? If you want to know more about how and where they lived, Surrey History Centre is the ideal place to trace your ancestral journey. Based in in Woking, we collect and preserve the records of Surrey's past and present, documenting the story of the county and its people from the 12th century to the 21st century.
Come and discover a wealth of valuable sources for family history research: from Quarter Sessions papers to parish registers, workhouse records to land tax returns, family papers to records of the Surrey Regiments. And don’t forget our local studies collections that encompass a range of books, pamphlets, photographs, trade directories and back copies of newspapers.
We also provide free access to Ancestry, Findmypast and the British Newspaper Archive in our searchroom.
So why not pay us a visit? Our helpful team are always happy to help you discover more about your Surrey ancestors!
Hampshire Genealogical Society covers all the parishes within Hampshire.
We publish a series of Village Booklets which are a one stop guide
to many Hampshire parishes and their associated records. Thanks to over
45 years of research, we have transcribed nearly 500 years of parish records, together with Monumental Inscriptions from throughout Hampshire.
We work in partnership with Hampshire Archives and Local Studies in Winchester. Our research centre has been based at Hampshire Archives since August 2021, where we run a help desk in the search room each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 10am-4pm.
Our membership is worldwide, and in addition to our 9 local groups within
Hampshire we have both an international group and a national group
which meet via zoom on alternate months.
This year Hampshire Genealogical Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary and we will be hosting a Golden Jubilee Event at Victoria Halls, Hartney Wintney on the weekend of 6th – 7th July featuring Speakers, Workshops, Ask the Experts and Exhibitors. Please see our website for details later this year.

Sussex Family History Group celebrated its 50th Anniversary last year. We have about 3,500 members in Sussex, the rest of the UK, and around the world. There are four meeting centres in the County at Brighton & Hove, Horsham, Uckfield and Worthing; so if you live in Sussex you are likely to find one fairly near to you. We also provide talks online via Zoom to reach as many members as possible.
Our quarterly journal, Sussex Family Historian, is posted to all members as part of their annual subscription. This journal is typically a sixty page A5 document full of articles and information about Sussex. The Group has its own Library and Family History Centre at The Keep in Falmer, Brighton.
The SFHG has designed and built databases of Sussex Information, Monumental Inscriptions, Marriage Indexes, Census Returns, Parish Records (baptisms, marriages, and burials), strays, members interests, Wills, members own family research and other genealogical information as it becomes available and effort permits. The latest database is the Sussex People Index, being built with contributions from various sources that mention Sussex individuals. Much of this data is gradually being placed online in our Data Archive, with free access to members.
