The East of London Family History Society

The East of London Family History Society’s aim is to promote and encourage the public and private study of family history, genealogy, cultural heritage, heraldry and local history with particular reference to the eastern boroughs of Greater London:

      • Barking & Dagenham

      • Hackney

      • Havering

      • Newham

      • Redbridge

      • Tower Hamlets

The Society was formed in 1978 and is now a registered charity with over 1,100 members worldwide. We have no offices, telephones or paid staff and all our services are provided by volunteer members.

Whether you are new to studying family history or a seasoned genealogist we hope you will find something to interest you.

Membership entitles you to:

  • four issues of our popular quarterly journal, Cockney Ancestor

  • a monthly mini newsletter

  • attend meetings at three venues or log into talks on Zoom

  • full access to the Member Area Message Board to post requests for assistance

  • publish your surname interests on line

  • access our member only on-line resources.
