Glasgow and West Scotland FHS

The GWSFHS covers the old Strathclyde Region centred on Glasgow, although there are also other 'county' societies in this area. The society was founded in 1977 and is still growing strong. Our resources are focussed on our research centre in Partick, Glasgow and on our 3-year-old website.

 Our Research Centre at 32 Mansfield St, Glasgow, G11 5QP is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 1pm-4pm.

Member Resources

  • Research Centre
    The Centre is home to books, maps, CDs, fiches, and publications from other societies. It offers free access to family history websites, and expert volunteers are on hand to help using the equipment and the resources.

  • Data Sets
    The Society is gradually digitising its unique data sets and will publish them on this website when they are ready. Members will be able to search these records which include MIs, parish registers, ancestral marriage index.

  • Library
    The Library holds approximately 4,000 publications relevant to Scottish genealogy searchable through the index, and a unique collection of unpublished or privately published family histories and charts.

Online Shop

  • We sell an increasing range of our own publications in PDF format

  • Customers may download the PDF file(s) immediately after payment

  • Card payments are accepted through Stripe or PayPal
